Interested in teaching a subject that you are well versed in and want to share with the community?  Fill out the proposal sheet below and send it back to Colin Sheehan, Youth & Family Director either by email at csheehan@oceancommunityymca.org or by returning a paper copy to the Westerly-Pawcatuck Branch.

Adult Enrichment Programming

Adult Beginner Tap

This Beginner class focuses on the fundamental of Tap to prepare students for the Intermediate program.

Adult Intermediate Tap

Students are encouraged to know shuffle, ball change, step-heel /heel-step.  Prior experience is encouraged before signing up.  If you have questions whether this course is right for you and your current skill level, please reach out to Colin Sheehan, Youth & Family Director at csheehan@oceancommunityymca.org .

Adult Beginner Ballet (Ages 16+)

In this class we study classical ballet in its very basic form, moving through the fundamentals; barre, center, corner, and simple stretching. Through ballet technique we lengthen & tone while developing balance, strength, and grace. No previous ballet experience necessary. All ages welcome!

Salsa & Swing  (Ages 16+)

Learn the basics of salsa and east coast swing dancing in a fun and friendly environment filled with music that we keep you on your feet. Couple prices

Music Education

GUITAR I (Ages 8-13)                                  

Strum and pluck your way to stardom in a small classroom setting.  Beginner players will learn the basics of holding a guitar, picking, tuning, chord progressions, and strum patterns.  Students must bring their own instruments for class.

GUITAR II (Ages 9-13)

Build upon previous skills and refine your play style while in a small group setting.  Students must receive permission from director or instructor to join.  Students must bring their own instruments for class.

This small group setting allows students to explore their singing voice. Classes will be spent reviewing singing basics, performing traditional vocal warm ups, and engaging in playful group vocal games.

Youth Dance

Pre-Ballet for Ages 4-6

The goal of this introductory class is to foster creativity, freedom, and expression through movement to create a life-long love of dance.  We will explore movement with wonder and joy, discovering the magic of dance, while gaining confidence and poise every step of the way.

Pre-School Rhythm & Movement for Ages 3-5

Our tiniest dancers will be introduced to the fundamental aspects of dance including music and movement.  Dancers will learn basic dance skills, while focusing on fine and gross motor skill development, confidence, agility and flexibility.

Beginner Ballet for Ages 7-12

In this class, classical ballet positions of the feet and arms are studied along with fundamental movements at the barre and then in the center.  In the center, work on more complex movements, jumps and turns as students progress at their own pace.  No previous ballet experience necessary.

Hip-Hop for Ages 8-12

This is a high octane class filled with laughs and sick moves.  Dancers will learn to move to the hottest music, have fun and be energetic.  Dancers will learn age appropriate hip hop skills.  Check out video below for one of the dances the kids learned in under 4 weeks!

Culture & Arts

Introduction to Spanish (Grades 3rd-5th)

This class will focus on exposing students to the Spanish language with motivating activities in a comfortable and highly participatory atmosphere.

Toddler Art (Ages 1.5-4)

Join Instructors Julia & Stephanie in this art class of self discover.  Let your toddlers make a mess and express themselves artistically in a safe environment using child friendly paints.

Introduction to Theater


The Westerly-Pawcatuck Branch is pleased to be partnering with the Granite Theatre of Westerly this Spring to provide local youth with a performing arts experience. During the 10 week program, children will have a hands on opportunity to build props, costumes, tour the theatre and see first-hand management of sound and lights.

Students will learn:                                                                                                   – Appropriate body movement during an audition

– How to perform a cold reading with provided material

– Choosing the right piece to showcase your abilities
