Gymnastics Team

Welcome to the Ocean Community YMCA Westerly-Pawcatuck Branch Gymnastics’ Team.  The Gymnastics’ team was formed in the fall of 2012.  The girls have competed in several meets in the past several months with more coming up.  The team strives on YMCA character and team unity.  The team has doubled in size in the past year. This team encourages participants to try their best, and continue practicing to enhance their program experience and overall well-being.

TEAM UPDATE: The Ocean Community YMCA, Westerly-Pawcatuck Gymnastics Team had seven girls from all of Rhode Island compete in Wichita, Kansas at the YMCA Nationals on June 26th. Gymnastics Summer 2017 Schedule

Practice runs from mid-September through mid-March. Team practices, twice a week.  Tuesday evening and Saturday Mornings.  More practices are added in preparation for meets.

GYMNASTIC TEAM begins in September, with meets starting around the end of October or the beginning of November. Most meets take place during the winter months and the program officially ends at Nationals time (If qualified). There is an optional program that runs during the summer for any members of the team looking to advance their skills.

Team participants need to register for the Team Level practices under the “Westerly-Pawcatuck Sports Tab”.  Please find the gymnastics level your child is in and choose that program

The best thing to do is go by your child’s age. If you are still uncertain ask a coach. Coaches can help you decide which practice is right for your child.

The Gymnastics’ team holds fundraisers in order to raise funds for new equipment and meets, as well as team unity.  As a parent, one can join the committee and help plan such events.

In general, each gymnast can compete in as many meets as possible; the more meets the more chance to qualify for Nationals and Regionals.  Each meet has an additional charge to the existing team fee.  Meets can be paid for and signed up for at the Welcome Center.

A local gymnastics or gym wear vendor, COMPETETOR’s CLOSET sells leotards, and warm up suits needed for meets.  Team orders them together as these have to be the same style.

You can also purchase a Team Bag, Warm-up Jacket and Warm-up Pants on-line here or at the Welcome Center Desk in our lobby.
