THE CANTEEN, YOUTH & TEEN CENTER Ages 9 – 14 years
Monday-Friday: 8:00AM – 12:30 PM & 3:30-8:00 PM
Saturday: 8:00 AM-1:00PM Sunday: Closed
Now teens have a place to hang out, play video, bring snacks, and mingle with friends. The canteen is always staffed by a Y employee and they provide a safe, fun and clean space. Two hour maximum stay in the Canteen. Children aged 9 year to 12 years, must be signed in by parent and parent needs to stay in building. FREE with membership
*Canteen is OPEN during the day for School holidays and vacations.

YMCA Leaders Club!
Come check out the Westerly-Pawcatuck YMCA’s Leader’s Club, a nationwide program for Teens ages 13-18 that teaches leadership skills through community service, volunteerism and personal growth. In Leaders Club, teens can meet other teens from their community, earn volunteer service hours and recommendations, and participate in regional leadership retreats.
Weekly meetings on Tuesdays. No registration necessary! Show up anytime. New Leaders are allowed to participate in two meetings before making a decision to join.

Y AFTER DARK
Join us as we let the teens let loose some of that school week stress on the first floor of the Y to hang, socialize and compete in structured and unstructured activities.

GUITAR I (Ages 9-13)
Strum and pluck your way to stardom in a small classroom setting. Beginner players will learn the basics of holding a guitar, picking, tuning, chord progressions, and strum patterns. Students must bring their own instruments for class.

GUITAR II (Ages 9-13)
Build upon previous skills and refine your play style while in a small group setting. Students must receive permission from director or instructor to join. Students must bring their own instruments for class.

SONG WRITER WORKSHOP (Ages 8-12) (FALL I PROGRAM)
This small group setting allows student to focus on key elements of songwriting such as the formation of music, chord structures, lyrics, hooks, rhymes, riffs & melodies. Solo or collaborate on your first song, it is up to you! Instruments are recommended but not required.
BEGINNER VOICE WORKSHOP (AGES 8-12)
This small group setting allows students to explore their singing voice. Classes will be spent reviewing singing basics, performing traditional vocal warm ups, and engaging in playful group vocal games.

A small group training class that will introduce weight training techniques in the wellness center. This class will educate free-weight use, invoke confidence in training in the fitness center, and create invaluable special bonds; all while getting a great workout. DOLPHIN PUPS PRE SWIM TEAM
This class is a stepping stone for swimmers who may be interested in Transitioning from our progressive swim lessons, to possibly joining our Dolphins Swim Team. This class will include introduction to Butterfly and completion of the Breaststroke. Swimmers will practice more advanced racing techniques, underwater streamline, starts, and proper flip turns for each stroke. Not only will this class serve as a place to learn and build confidence, but swimmers and parents will get a glimpse of what it is like to be on swim team.

Introduction to Theater

PROGRAM IS LOCATED AT GRANITE THEATRE of WESTERLY
The Westerly-Pawcatuck Branch is pleased to be partnering with the Granite Theatre of Westerly to provide local youth with a performing arts experience. During the 10 week program, children will have a hands on opportunity to build props, costumes, tour the theatre and see first-hand management of sound and lights.
Students will learn: – Appropriate body movement during an audition
– How to perform a cold reading with provided material
– Choosing the right piece to showcase your abilities
