Group Fitness classes

Group Fitness

Offerings include Baptiste Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Physio Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Yin, and more!

Cycle classes are available to Ocean Community YMCA member free as a benefit of membership. Reservations can be made 24 hour prior to class time by calling/visiting the Welcome Center. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to start. Bikes cannot be held.

Barre is a workout combining dance, Pilates, and Yoga.  The workout is put together to build strength, core conditioning and flexibility with postural alignment.

Based on the methods of Joseph Pilates, this class focuses on building core strength and creating a more flexible and balanced body through non-impact exercises.

Come join the party! Zumba fuses Latin rhythm with easy to follow dance moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away!

TRX is a suspension training tool that allows you to use your own body weight for functional fitness training.  Classes utilize this training modality along with other equipment to keep you moving!

A group fitness class geared towards our members 65+ who want to focus on cardio, strength, balance and flexibility. Chairs may be used for additional support and balance.

matter of balance

A MATTER OF BALANCE is an award-winning FREE 8-week program open to Y members and the community designed. Matter of Balance is a cognitive restructuring class designed to view falls as manageable and make changes to reduce fall risks at home. This class is ideal for anyone concerned about falls, anyone who has fallen in the past, and anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns. Pre-registration is required.

LiveStrong At The YMCA​

Part of the Y’s commitment to strengthening community through healthy living, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA offers adults affected by cancer a safe, supportive environment to participate in physical and social activities focused on strengthening the whole person. This FREE 12-week small group program is designed for adult cancer survivors and uses traditional exercise methods to ease you back into fitness. Pre-registration is required.

Moving for better balance

This is an evidence-based, instructor-led group program designed to help improve strength, balance, flexibility, and mobility through the slow and therapeutic movements of Tai Chi, a graceful form of exercise and deep breathing. Participants gain a positive social experience while working to improve their balance and stability, memory and cognition, flexibility, and overall muscle strength. Free for members and available to non-members via drop-in day pass.

powerful tools for caregivers

This is a CDC-recognized program that supports caregivers in taking care of yourself while caring for someone else. This FREE program is open to the community and includes 6 weekly sessions led by certified instructors in a small group setting.

national diabetes prevention program

National DPP is the CDC-recognized lifestyle change program, a research-based program focusing on healthy eating and physical activity which showed that people with prediabetes who take part in a structured lifestyle change program can cut their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% (71% for people over 60 years old). The Y Walking Club

Come join the Westerly-Pawcatuck Walking Club for some light exercise, a way to meet new people, and enjoy some fresh air around Wilcox Park! When done regularly, walking at a brisk pace may lower the risk of high blood pressure, strengthen bones and muscles, burn more calories, & lift your mood. The social connections made in walking clubs can also offer you a sense of wellbeing and positive mental health. Free for members and available to non-members via drop in day pass. In 2008, the YMCA partnered with the LIVESTRONG© Foundation to help cancer survivors begin the journey toward recovery with the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program. Part of the Y’s commitment to strengthening community through healthy living, the program offers adults affected by cancer a safe, supportive environment to participate in physical and social activities focused on strengthening the whole person.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA focuses on you—the whole person—not the disease. This FREE 12-week small group program is designed for adult cancer survivors and uses traditional exercise methods to ease you back into fitness and help you maintain a healthy weight.
