Dear Donors, Members, and Friends of the Ocean Community YMCA,
As we step into 2025, we reflect with gratitude on all we have accomplished together. Your generosity, dedication, and belief in the Y’s mission continue to strengthen our community and expand opportunities for all.
This year also marks a significant transition for our YMCA. After 21 years of dedicated leadership, our CEO, Maureen Fitzgerald, is retiring. Her vision, passion, and steadfast commitment have shaped the Y into the thriving community cornerstone it is today. We owe much of our success to her leadership, and we extend our deepest gratitude for her years of service.
We are also thrilled to welcome our new CEO, Sheila Litty, who brings enthisiasm, energy, and a profound commitment to our mission. We look forward to the next chapter under her leadership and the continued evolution of our Y.
As Chief Volunteer Officer, I am continually inspired by the dedication of our volunteers, donors, and staff. Your support drives our success—expanding programs, increasing access, and ensuring the Y remains a place of belonging for all.
This year’s annual report highlights our progress, guided by the 2023-2028 strategic plan. From youth development to community wellness, we continue to grow and evolve, always striving to meet the needs of those we serve.
As we look to the future, we are excited for the opportunities ahead. With your continued support, we will build on our successes and create an even greater impact. Thank you for being part of this journey.
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
To be recognized as the leading charitable organization which directly engages and connects children, adults, and families from all segments of our community in developing habits that lead to healthier and more fulfilling lifestyles.
In order to serve more people and expand the YMCA’s presence, we will enhance partnerships to support our strategic direction of facility and program expansion in meeting community needs.
With a promise to serve more individuals our YMCA will grow membership and expand programs through focused strategies, enhancing staff and strong relationship development
Through Philanthropy and Fiscal Management, the YMCA will commit to a deliberate focus on fund development thereby ensuring financial stability and greater impact. To build resilience and sustainability of our Facilities, we will improve energy efficiency.
To achieve our overall organizational initiatives, we will sustain and strengthen our board governance and recruit, develop, and retain staff and volunteers.
This year marked a 20% increase in membership across our Association. The Y continues to be a trusted place where individuals and families come to connect, grow, and thrive.
Through our YCares financial assistance program, 1 in 5 members relied on support to access Y programs and services. Ensuring everyone in our community could belong, thrive, and grow.
This year, over 150 dedicated volunteers rallied behind our Annual Support Campaign, helping to raise essential funds that power the Y’s mission and ensure access for all.
At the Arcadia YMCA, connections flourish beyond fitness. Andrew, a dedicated member, turned his passion for music and movement into Drew’s Start It with Music, a free monthly class that brings people of all abilities together through creativity. “The Arcadia Y has a warm and homey feeling that is very special in this community,” he shares. By providing a space for artistic expression, Andrew has created more than just a class—he’s built a welcoming community where everyone belongs.
In 2024, our two day camps— Camp Cove and Camp Watchaug —once again experienced incredible growth, welcoming more campers than ever before.
This year, we saw an increase in program participation. By listening to our community and adapting our offerings, we strive to ensure everyone feels welcome.
Studies have shown that formal swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% for children under 4, underscoring our commitment to fostering confidence and safety in and around water.
When Alice’s children introduced her to Pickleball at the Y, she never imagined how much it would come to mean. A longtime tennis player, she was hesitant—but soon found not just a new sport, but a welcoming community. After losing her husband of 60 years, Pickleball and the friendships she formed became a source of comfort. “This has been my therapy,” she reflects. “I hope it can be that for others, too.” She encourages everyone to give it a try: “It’s fun, easy to learn, and the camaraderie is incredible. The people here make it truly special.”

For Courtney, a single mom of three, the Y has been a constant—from childhood visits to now creating memories with her own family. She and her youngest swim weekly, while her older sons thrive in the Wellness Center. With support from YCares, the Y remains a welcoming space where they can connect. “At the Y, we’ve found a place that supports both our physical and mental well-being. It’s a safe space where my children can grow, and we can all feel supported as a family,”

For Nancy and her husband, Eduardo, the Y has been a lifeline in more ways than one. “The Y provides a safe and welcoming space for our son, Cesar, where he feels at ease and surrounded by people who care,” Nancy shares. With support from Y Cares, their family has been able to participate in summers at Camp Watchaug, where Cesar gains confidence, makes friends, and thrives in the outdoors. Far from extended relatives, they’ve found a true sense of community and connection through the Y.
The Y Is the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose, & each other.
